Badger DIGS Canoecopia 2012

This paddle (set) - close up view - will be unveiled at Canoecopia with
Nova Craft's Jackson Pollock inspired abstract art canoe.
Nova Craft's Jackson Pollock inspired abstract art canoe.
This is a very special season for us at Badger® Paddles. We almost felt like we "got a golden ticket" when we received our invitation to attend Rutabaga's renowned Canoecopia this year. Not only will this be our first official booth at a trade show or event, but this is also our first real official debut in the U.S. and we could not be more excited. It almost feels like it did the time Badger® attended our first ever event at the Swift Canoe & Kayak's Guelph Lake Sale only a few years ago.

Hand painted paddles that will be
available at Canoecopia 2012
But this time, instead of just 6 styles of oiled paddles, Badger® Paddles has grown to include WaterColours(colourfully tinted solid wood canoe paddles for kids or adults), combination finish paddles (the best of both worlds - a varnished blade with and oiled shaft/grip), Badger® Wood Oil, T-shirts, Badger® toques (hat), and more! Plus, unlike when we first launched, now every adult length  Badger® Paddle includes it's own Badger® Paddle Sock - a sock that will protect and stretch to fit almost any style paddle you have in your collection up to 65" in length - not just your Badger® Paddle.

Combination finished paddles -
varnished blade with oiled shaft/grip.

We are really having as much fun with this event as we can so be sure to stop by the Badger® Paddles booth and say hello to Mike and check out some of the hand painted paddles Fiona has done for this special occasion - including the Jackson Pollack inspired art paddles to be unveiled with Nova Craft's abstract art canoe (see above photos).

So if you want to just talk paddling, or have questions about how our paddles are made, or are interested in purchasing a paddle from it's maker, then Mike will be more then happy to chat with you. Just look for the Badger® Paddles booth. Canoecopia is held annually in Wisconsin, U.S.A. by Rutabaga. This year Canoecopia will be the weekend of March 9 - 11th. For more information and/or tickets, please visit www.canoecopia.com. Or read the 2012 Canoecopia Gazette. Hope to see you there if you can dig it!

Welcome FatPaddler - CONTEST Results

This past January, the HUGELY AWESOME, Sean Smith, (a.k.a. the FATPADDLER) from Australia ventured to the northern hemisphere for a short visit.  After a whirlwind of a trip to Toronto, Thunder Bay and then on to Chicago, before finally returning home just this past week, Sean reported a wonderful adventure on his blog about some of his experiences while here, and there. Mike also had a trip report to share with us.  Read it here: Fat Paddler in Toronto Trip-Report.

In honour of Sean's visit, Badger held a Welcome FATPADDLER Contest with prizes from various sponsors including Algonquin Outfitters, Swift Canoe & Kayak, H2O Performance Kayak Paddles, Badger Paddles and FatPaddler.com too!

Sticker Prize Pack for
General Draw Winners

There were 3 sticker prize packs up for grabs by way of a General Draw, a paddle sock (for best message to FATPADDLER), and a great prize BONUS DRAW PRIZE pack of some great FREE SWAG including a hoodie from Algonquin Outfitters, a great cap from Swift, a Badger Paddle T-shirt and more!

The General Draw Winners
(for the prize of a sticker prize pack) are:
Lauren B. from Canada
Chris J. from Canada
Mandy M. from the U.K.

The winner of the Badger Paddle Sock for BEST MESSAGE for FATPADDLER is Bob S. from Canada who wrote to us:

"Holy !@#% Cow,   Fat Paddlers on Lake Ontario,
I don't now who I felt worse for, the Chestnut or the "Fat Paddlers"
Canada defianatly has the "coolest" paddlers on Earth

nice Badgers"

And, FATPADDLER liked this message so much, he added his own personal reply to Bob saying:

"Well done Bob, and I completely agree. I'm not sure if the chestnut was sinking or simply dying!! Cheers - FP"

And finally, the winner of the big BONUS DRAW (for the Algonquin Outfitters' hoodie, Swift hat, the much coveted FATPADDLER sticker, and more - see image on left), and whose country had the most welcome messages for FATPADDLER by far, is Trevor P. from Canada!!!

Bonus Draw Prize Pack
Congrats to all the winners and thanks to all who participated in this friendly paddler's contest to celebrate our international similarities when it comes to our passion for paddling... something FATPADDLER does every time he gets in a boat and shares his adventures with the world on his famous blog.

Also a special thanks to all the contest sponsors, especially Algonquin Outfitters and Swift Canoe and even H2O Performance Paddles, who also welcomed FATPADDLER's visit with such generosity by adding prizes to the lot in celebration of this hefty's man's visit.

And last but not least, the BIGGEST of THANKS to FATPADDLER, himself. Not only for allowing us to run this contest in honour of his visit to North America, but also for going out there every day - regardless of his fear of "falling out of his kayak and attracting sharks to his fat injured seal-like profile" - for sharing his paddling adventures with the world and for inspiring so many to get out there and paddle!

Badger Paddles T-shirts now available!

Badger Paddles T-shirts seen here in black.

Our new Badger Paddles T-shirts are made exclusively by Llama Yama Designs... ecocentric, eclectic and human friendly.  This really cool design (by our friend Carmen B.) was printed on black shirts (with white ink) and on gray too (with black ink).

The best thing about these shirts is that they are "fair trade" merchandise bought from an El Salvadorian women's co-op, and, we have been told, that some of the shirts could even consist of "fabric ends".  So we at Badger are really happy that the shirts are both socially and environmentally conscious merchandise.

Bob & Asako of Llama Yama Designs choose to only use fair trade products as they are own & operate this very socially conscious & respectful company. Locally printed at the Llama Yama's retreat just outside of Algonquin Park, Canada, these Badger Paddle T-shirts are sure to inspire you to get out and dig the water!

Our Badger Paddles Fair Trade T-shirts are only $25.00*
purchase a T-shirt for only $20.00*

*(plus shipping & taxes where applicable).

And speaking of T-shirts, here is a cool video of how to fold a T-shirt as seen in Japan that our friends Bob and Asako shared with us.  Why not try it with your new Badger T!  Or check out Llama Yama Designs' online store for some more great designs or become a fan of Llama Yama on Facebook.  According to the Llama Yama Designs' website, their "graphics pack a subtle, not in-your-face message which are ecocentric and quirky" as their "goal is to create images that reflect the whispers of nature, bio-diversity, and the complexity of simple machines and mechanisms inspired by ecological design and mutually contradictory images."  How cool is that?!!

We'll be watching for you in your Badger T's this summer - so hope to see you out on the water!!!
